At 1403z heard on the 232 Orderwire, Flyball, (NAOC), calling Unwanted. Flyball asked Unwanted if Unwanted was able to reset the patch on 2702 to Belvoir. I just got the call as well we just went to North OPS and due to these rain showers winds have come around from the north, we're running around a 340 at 10 right now. Other then that what I can see I do have a north departure now looking at the charts here I don't think you're going to have any trouble once you get out of this shower stuff that's over us, the isolated thunder storms, I think tops right now directly west of us are probably in the neighborhood of 25k ft. and that's max tops I think on an average they are about 20k. I don't have Doppler radar but, the big screen at the front counter we can ask for lightning data on it, and the only returns that I'm getting that's lightning detector is up near Baltimore and extending to the northeast and there is one stroke on the W.V. MD. border at central MD. Everything seems to be weakening, the most intense stuff is probably about 20 - 25 miles northeast of us extending to the northeast, the stuff to the south is some rain showers maybe an isolated thunderstorm here and there with tops at 28 and due west of here tops are running, max tops 25 average 20 with just rain showers. It's a motor pool, that decision was, Col. name had called back maybe a half hour ago. I passed that to Col. name but he called here, just wondering getting an idea of what we were seeing I believe I talked to him about 2050L. They've known for some time, I think they canceled out maybe an hour and a half prior to when their lift would have been. Just to let you know, I don't know if Col. name passed this to you, but I did call back and talked to that guy again, the head guy over there at TMU, he did say that J518 was open out of Baltimore but it wasn't open out of Dulles, it was open and he anticipated that it would be open for your departure time. Rasputin said he'd like to have chs. 5 through 12 and ADMIN up on ports 7,8,9, and 10. Ski Slope told him to standby, and let him get rid of the echo. Ski Slope said they must have a loop up somewhere. Rasputin says he hasn't done all of his patching yet. Ski Slope asked if this was on the SSMA. Rasputin said yes, he wants ch. 5 on port 7, ch. 6 on port 8, ch.12 on port 9 and ADMIN on port 10. He said they were also drawing dial tone across port 7 and he'd like to tear that down and replace it with ch. 5. Ski Slope said the Orderwire is up now if he wants to test it. Ski Slope will put the SSMA side up first and then he'll put the UHF side up one at a time for the other 3 chs. Rasputin replied and had very poor sounding audio with echo. He said he had ADMIN up over SSMA. Ski Slope said he has him loud and clear. There was a delay, (because of the satellite), and Rasputin said he has Ski Slope loud and clear also. At 0131z heard on the 232 Orderwire Ski Slope saying he's ready to go on to ch. 5, he has the patch up for 5. Rasputin says he'll check it out. At 0132z heard on the 232 Orderwire, Waldorf op, "Hey Jim, I think Chuck is waiting for me on the phone. You might pick it up." At 0133z heard on the 232 Orderwire Ski Slope asking if they got any feedback on 5 yet. Rasputin said they are checking it now. At 0134z heard on the 232 Orderwire Ski Slope with "Testing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 how do you read?" After a delay Rasputin then replied to Ski Slope's test count saying he has him loud and clear. They're carrying at Belvoir lightning cloud to cloud, cloud to air, cloud to ground and that's northeast moving northeast. (Orderwire comms. wiped out some stuff. ) Fort Belvoir, they're carrying lightning in cloud northwest through north and looking at the radar on that one, what they're seeing is up near west of Baltimore by 30 miles is what they're seeing. The heaviest as far in the state of MD. is from the extreme northeast corner through the northern Chesapeake Bay and then to our northeast probably about 15 miles to our northeast and that's again moving to the northeast, there's one cell that's between us and Fort Belvoir and due west of here and northwest of here all I see is rain showers. The winds are 020 at 5 and probably what's going to happen is that they are going to go calm here prior to your departure." At 0136z heard on the 232 Orderwire Ski Slope saying he's in the back room now, he'll put 6 up. 6 is now in there. Rasputin said roger, he'd like a double feed at this time also. Ch. 6 checks 5 by. Ski Slope finally understood what Rasputin was saying about the double feed, (Rasputin's audio is awful). At 0138z heard on the 232 Orderwire Ski Slope telling Rasputin that he shows a double feed up. Rasputin says he shows the same standby. Rasputin and Ski Slope have each other loud and clear with the double feed. At 0139z heard phone call on 232.8138USB. At 0140z heard on the 232 Orderwire Rasputin asking Ski Slope to go RF only at this time, all circuits check 5 by. I heard some beeps from Waldorf pushing buttons and then Ski Slope said he shows him strictly RF. Rasputin says he shows the same and has Ski Slope loud and clear. At 0144z heard on the 232 Orderwire Rasputin calling Ski Slope and informing Ski Slope that Rasputin is departing their current station and will be heading towards station Activated. At 0933z heard on the 325 Orderwire, "Let's see we're running out of port 4 which is a little weird, that isn't the normal cofig, but first of all we should change the port speed down to two dot four." The audio sounded like a signal on HF that has "Polar Flutter" on it. Ski Slope, (Waldorf), tried to interrupt a couple of times but the other end, which is Red Apple, (a NAOC?), (who identifies himself much later on), didn't respond. Red Apple didn't respond because he was up on a satellite and he was being patched onto the Orderwire. I could hear later on that if Red Apple had his mike keyed I could hear Waldorf coming over the Orderwire with a couple of seconds delay, four or five word delay. Ski Slope said to let him get over there, standby. There will be no more times given for transmissions since I had to go through 3 sides of 1 hour each and 1 side of 45 min. tapes to listen to the comms. Too much hassle. I'll just break the comms. into chuncks here. Red Apple came back and said "between you and I, and then I guess it's gonna have to go through Detrick on that. Just like the book shows and then Detrick should get it all the way to the distant end." No reply from Ski Slope. Red Apple: "Are you with me sir on this?" Ski Slope: "Yes sir, I am. Red Apple says he went back. When he changed it started taking hits so he went back to 4.8 and it came right back up. Ski Slope said to let him go right back in it. Red Apple said he can't select STU III on his software. Ski Slope said roger, also 15 is 9600, where according to the book it should be 48. Port 16 should be 96. Red Apple asked if Ski Slope wanted to change it back to 48 because Red Apple just changed it to 96 a little while ago. Ski Slope said sure. Red Apple said Ski Slope can change it to 48 if he wants and do a Downline Load to him. Ski Slope says he'll do it. Ski Slope said he did a Downline Load , did it clear in Red Apple's direction? Red Apple said that's what's weird, when Ski Slope does a Downline Load that it doesn't clear. Whoever does a Downline Load clears and the other one always has a fault. Ski Slope said that is weird. Red Apple asked "The CELP card, those are the ones for the Internet access, right?" Ski Slope said he believes so. Red Apple asked if Ski Slope has them installed. Ski Slope said that it says he does, let him go back and check. Red Apple says he thinks that his guys never put theirs in, he doesn't know if they both have to have them in or not. Ski Slope said he thinks that they both would have to have them in. Let him go in and examine it again. Red Apple says what he's getting at is if they put ports 15 & 16 in standby and see what would happen maybe it would clear everything. Ski Slope said that's probably true. Ski Slope came on and asked what Red Apple shows now, does he still have a fault. Red Apple said that's a rodge. Ski Slope put both 15 and 16 to unused. Red Apple said he needs to do the same. Ski Slope said he did a Downline Load to Red Apple, he doesn't know if it took. Red Apple said he'll take a look. Ski Slope said it came back and told him it took. Ski Slope said he shows them being used also, he doesn't know why they aren't taking, his configuration shows that he changed it and he activates configuration "B" but it's not changing that. Red Apple asked if Ski Slope was trying to turn them off. Ski Slope said he was trying to put them unused. Red Apple said he was checking the alarms and status. Red Apple said he's showing ports 15 and 16 incompatible. Ski Slope said his is clean, he's not showing a fault at the moment. Of course, if Red Apple does a Downline Load to Ski Slope it'll be the other way. Red Apple asked if Ski Slope has CELP cards in 15 and 16. Ski Slope said to standby. Ski Slope said he doesn't believe so, he was under the impression that they put a red mark on the latch for the CELP cards, but he only has one of those. He doesn't know if they have a bad one. Red Apple said he can shut his off and swap some cards real quick and see what happens. Ski Slope said O.K. Red Apple said his incompatible moved to 13 and 14. It followed where he moved the cards to. He moved the card from 15 and 16 to 13 and 14 and the incompatibility showed up where he moved the card to. Ski Slope asked if Red Apple wanted to put his back normal and he'll move his card at 15 and 16. Red Apple said 15 and 16 should be O.K. now. The incompatibility now is at ports 13 and 14. He's now wondering if he has a bad card. Ski Slope said he'll be away from the ADMIN for a minute. He'll hear Red Apple if he hollers. When Ski Slope came back Red Apple said he moved that card back to it's regular configuration. Ski Slope asked if Red Apple thinks he has a bad card. Red Apple said he's not sure. Ski Slope said he can power his down and put "this other type card" in and see if it will match up with it. Red Apple said to go for it. Ski Slope said he put the red card in and it would not come back up, it just hung up on initializing so he put a different card in there, same type and it still wouldn't come up so he put the original card back in and he's back up and clear. Red Apple said he was going to try to change one setting to see what happens. Red Apple asked if Ski Slope was there, Ski Slope said he is. He is running clear, just have the green light on the forth card in from the left. Red Apple thinks that the green light is on because that is their ADMIN. There are 2 green LEDs per card and that's showing the ports and when one of the ports is off hook like the Orderwire is that's showing it active. Ski Slope said that makes sense, he's locked up, no alarms. Red Apple said to let him go through the front panel settings again to see if something is different from the book. Ski Slope said that his 15 when he came back up is at 48 instead of 24. Red Apple asked if that was port 15. Ski Slope said roger, that's back where it was, where it should be. Red Apple said that they should turn off ports 15 and 16. Ski Slope said O.K., how do you turn them off? He saw putting them unused. Red Apple said that that is turning them off, he'll just hit activate local remote, do a Downline Load right now. Red Apple came back and asked what it's looking like. Ski Slope said he shows 15 E & M and unused. Red Apple asked if the fault light was on. Ski Slope said no, he's clear on that and he's showing 16 unused. Red Apple said that's definitely their problem, or his problem anyway. He said he's going to turn port 16 on and do a Downline Load to Ski Slope and see what happens. Red Apple came back and asked if Ski Slope was showing a fault. Ski Slope said that he was, it's port 16 incompatible. Red Apple said he's going to go back and turn that port back off and do a Downline Load, he'll be back in a minute. Red Apple came back and asked if Ski Slope was showing clear. Ski Slope said he shows both 15 and 16 unused, and no faults. Red Apple asked if Ski Slope still had the front panel open. Ski Slope said he does. Red Apple said the Alpha 8 card which is for ports 15 and 16 does it have an LED on it? Ski Slope said no it doesn't. Red Apple said there's just a couple of metal tabs that are on the card. Ski Slope said the metal tabs that release it, but sticking out front there is nothing. Just the lift lever. Let him get "this other one that's the same, hold on." Red Apple said to let him put it another way, starting with the Alpha 4 card, the one that has the LED that's lit, the green LED, if Ski Slope counts all the cards with LEDs do you have 5? Ski Slope said that he does, 4 through 8. Red Apple said O.K., it looks like they are using the same cards, the only thing that Red Apple can think is that he has a bad Alpha 8 card, for ports 15 and 16. Ski Slope said his card for 13 and 14 is the same as 15 and 16, if Red Apple wants Ski Slope to swap his two around just to be sure. Red Apple said no, when Red Apple swaps his cards around the problem follows. Ski Slope said that's right, he remembers that now. Red Apple said he's going to go see if he has another card, he'll be back. Red Apple, (Finally used his call), called Ski Slope and asked if Ski Slope was still all green. Ski Slope said that he is. Red Apple said he'd like to try to get another circuit up "here". He's siting there looking at the information they gave him for "this" and for the 2700 from what he's reading it looks like it should be going down to Roberts. Ski Slope asked where do they have that, on port 4? Red Apple said yes. That's the only way he can figure it, it's going through the SATCOM to get back to you. Could Ski Slope give Roberts a call and maybe troubleshoot that with them? Ski Slope asked if it was not getting back to Red Apple. Red Apple said that it's getting to Ski Slope because Ski Slope put a loop up at Ski Slope and Red Apple was able to get it back from Ski Slope. Ski Slope said right now they have port 4 using null modem. There is about a 15 minute gap, (Rosemary Woods? :>) ), since one of the tape decks which should have come on 20 minutes earlier then it did did not. Red Apple said that will work if Fort Detrick on the other end is taking that port 5 and putting it through the 2700. Ski Slope said he's not sure which is transmit and which is receive. Red Apple said that he's sending data, he'll drop it and tell him if it goes away. Ski Slope said let him get back there, O.K. Ski Slope sees Red Apple just pulled it, he can put it back up. Ski Slope says that he doesn't see anything from Detrick, he'll call him. Why did Red Apple now have a satellite link patched over to the WBFM Orderwire? If Rasputin was the NAOC going with Bill to New Zealand was he on the ground or in the vicinity of Hawaii/Hickam? The comms. with Rasputin took place in the 1200z/0800L hour. There was a report from Jim Miller in Hawaii that Bill left Hickam around 0300L which should put it during the same time frame as the Rasputin comms. Is there a GEP in Hawaii/Hickam? Or was Rasputin not the NAOC for Bill's trip? Looking back at the log of Rasputin's departure it shows that Rasputin was only authorized to use RF 28 or 29, TACAMO freqs.(?) at station Activated and RF 1 or 21 at station Gun Barrel. Did a TACAMO go with Bill? Listening to a tape with clean audio from Macaroni the voice is of a NAOC guy. Maybe Red Apple was a TACAMO, since it's hard to tell if the problems being discussed between Fly Ball/Ski Slope & Macaroni/Rasputin are with the NAOC in comms. or another a/c. Tone Deaf said he can understand that, the thing is since it's Over Rule's circuits he can get off of them if he wants. What Tone Deaf will have to do is take the other rack up, Wild Boar's VIP rack, and roll it over to RF 18 so Tone Deaf can monitor 18 if Over Rule comes up he can let Wild Boar know what's going on. If no one is using the circuits, no one comes up on RF 18 and Over Rule says fine it's cool by Tone Deaf. Wild Boar says he wants to be educated, some of Wild Boar's books, not the NCM and he needs to look at that again, Wild Boars books tell him that if they are not up they don't necessarily have to call them they can call Waldorf. Tone Deaf said roger, and what happens Waldorf needs to monitor, at the time Tone Deaf was talking to them they had Over Rule out of site, he was coming back into them, and they had a rumor that the other aircraft was coming up, which he did come up, they need to be able to monitor both of them, as far as using the circuits they just have to have a way to monitor them. At that time they would have all 4 racks tied up. Wild Boar had his primary and secondary had the second rack up, that would have used up all of the racks, Tone Deaf would have no way of monitoring RF 18. As long as Tone Deaf has a rack to monitor RF 18 it's a pretty easy thing to do, if Tone Deaf doesn't monitor RF 18 then Tone Deaf needs some way of knowing if someone's going to be coming up on that. At 2209z the carrier on 355.000 was at S-1. At 2215z heard on the 267 Orderwire Tone Deaf replying to AF1, no signal in WBFM mode heard on 355.000, Tone Deaf told AF1 he'll shut it down when he sees AF1's carrier drop. At 2126z heard on the 267 Orderwire "Tech. Control Sgt. name may I help you sir mam?" , NAOC. Then Tone Deaf came on and called Wild Boar asking if Wild Boar had called. Wild Boar came back and said that actually someone was calling Wild Boar and the fellow was on the Orderwire instead of the phone, Wild Boar apologizes.
